Planning a Clearwater Beach Wedding

There’s nothing quite as romantic as a serene beach wedding. In Clearwater Beach, our beaches offer white sandy shores and the Gulf of Mexico as the perfect backdrop to your love story. If you’re planning to tie the knot on the beautiful beaches of Clearwater Beach, FL then you may be wondering about a few logistics. Well, look no further because all the answers are here to help you put on a magnificent Clearwater Beach wedding.

First, depending on the size of your event you may need to obtain a special event permit. If you are having a small beach wedding ceremony with less than 75 people, no amplified audio and no structures such as gazebos or tents then you do not have to worry about retrieving a permit. The City of Clearwater does request though that all setting up and breaking down be done immediately before and after your ceremony. Keep in mind, no glassware, alcohol or open flames are allowed on the beach and any area north of Avalon Street does not allow beach activities. If you plan to have a larger ceremony with more than 75 guests, plan on having amplified sound and intend utilize a structure that will impact public property, public facilities, parks, sidewalks or streets then you will need to get a special event permit. Click here for a printable version of the permit.

Regarding marriage laws in Florida, both persons must apply for the license together prior to the wedding. To apply you must have a photo ID and know your social security number.  Florida residents must either wait for 3 days or attend a state certified marriage preparation course. Out of state residents do not have to wait any period of time before being wed. Once received, a Florida marriage license is good for 60 day anywhere in the state. You can be married by a minister, notary or boat captain. Click here for more information on obtaining your marriage license in Pinellas County.

Clearwater Beach is a great place to come and relax under the sun with your toes in the sand. The quaint beach town offers great food as well of tons of entertainment and adventure for everyone in the family. Hotels on Clearwater Beach, like the Beachview Inn, are typically located right across the street from the sandy shore, tempting our visitors to spend most of their time basking in the warm sunlight. Below are a few tips on beach safety.

  • Bring lots of water with you to the beach to avoid dehydration.
  • Always bring (and apply) sunscreen, sunglasses, a large brimmed hat or an umbrella to keep you and your family protected from harmful UV rays.
  • Check the weather and water conditions before heading out to the beach so you know what to expect all day long.
  • Know how to swim and never swim alone.
  • Swim only in designated areas, preferably within close range to a lifeguard stand.
  • Know how to escape a rip current if you find yourself stuck in one. Remember, don’t fight the current. Escape the current by swimming parallel to the shore, once out swim to shore.
  • Be on alert for beach warning flags and know what each means. The flags serve as a warning for overall surf conditions not for specific issues such as rip currents or jelly fish.

Fun on Clearwater Beach

BVI_Img_1-20-12

Whether you lay by the pool or keep cool in the gulf, Clearwater Beach, FL offers visitors perfect Florida weather. Well, except when it rains, but we like to boast that’s not all that often anyway. So if you’re heading out to the beach with the kids this weekend make sure to pack plenty of sunblock, some healthy snacks and maybe even a couple fun activities. But in case you left the shovel and pale at home and can’t think of any other ideas to entertain them family here’s a couple ideas.

Build a Sand Castle

Sure it’s the oldest one in the book, but it is still quite possibly the most fun. Get creative, build a castle, a city, a sand man or even a sand animal. The best part is that there are no rules so you’re free to let your (or the kids’) imagination wonder.

Collect Seashells and Stones

Another oldie but a goody, collect fascinating trinkets you see as you wonder down the shores of Clearwater Beach and put them together later to design an interesting picture.

Play Keep Your Bottle

For this you’ll need two plastic bottles, small plastic cups and two good sports on each team. Simply divide your group into two teams and have the trooper on each team sit Indian style with a plastic bottle placed on their head. Line up the remaining team members and at the signal have each member one by one run to the ocean, fill up their cup and then run back to their team member with the water bottle on their head. Each member must quickly and carefully pour the water from their cup into the water bottle. The first team to fill up their bottle wins. It’s a fun game that keeps every one active and one person cool as they’re bound to have some water poured on their head.

These are just a few ideas to keep the family entertained while spending the day on the beautiful beaches of Clearwater Beach, FL. Want to stay close by so you don’t have to worry about trekking to the beach on your vacation? Reserve your room now at the Beachview Inn, located right across the street from Clearwater Beach.
