Barrier Hopping in Clearwater Beach

The week has come and gone once again and as the weekend approaches you might be wondering what’s on the agenda for a fun Clearwater Beach adventure. While we often blog about the many activities, shops and restaurants nearby our hotel in Clearwater Beach we sometimes forget to clearly express to our readers the true beauty that engulfs Clearwater Beach, FL.

Not too far from our hotel in Clearwater Beach are Caladesi Island State Park and its twin, Honeymoon Island. The two began their lives conjoined as the north and south ends of one long island. Until, like in many of our own lives, a catastrophic event created a rift and forced them to drift apart (pun entirely intended). That event was a massive hurricane in 1925. Since then, the twins have become two distinct barrier islands with Honeymoon Island boasting of both a larger surface area and visiting crowd. To reach Caladesi, visitors must take a ferry from Honeymoon Island. For those sailing on their own, they can pull right on up to the shores of Caladesi Island. Or if you’re feeling up to a particularly long walk you can stroll over to Caladesi on a lengthy sandy stretch of land strategically placed between Clearwater Beach and Caladesi by a hurricane in 1985.

Aside from its stunning beaches like those found in Clearwater Beach, Caladesi Island also has nature trails and a kayak trail among the tropic swamps and twisted mangroves.

Honeymoon Island is located north of Caladesi Island State Park and is the larger of the two. The Island located just off the coast of Clearwater Beach has its own ferry system to take beach goers to its neighboring island, Caldesi. This beautiful beach island also offers stunning beaches, hiking trails and even a dog beach in case you planned to bring along the pooches.

No matter which island you decide to make a day trip to, our hotel in Clearwater Beach, FL is located close by, so you can venture back out the next day (and the next day and the day after that). So come on down to Clearwater Beach this weekend to see the wonderful beaches and breath taking sunsets we’re always bragging about.
